Meet Lorraine Rosales, Head of Circulation at North Las Vegas

Lorraine Rosales, Library Technician & Head of Circulation at the North Las Vegas Campus Library

Tell us something about yourself Raine! I am originally from California but raised in Las Vegas so I consider myself a Vegas native. I started my journey in the public library working for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District for thirteen years before coming to academic libraries. I am a proud CSN graduate earning an Associate of General Studies degree and an Associate of Arts degree which I then transferred to UNLV where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 2009.

Why did you decide to leave the public library to work in an academic library? I really loved working in public libraries and am very thankful to have been given the chance to bring my public experience and perspective to the world of academic libraries. I had always wondered how academic libraries differed from public libraries and I must say that academic libraries have proved to be just as great with wonderful faculty and staff as well as opportunities for professional growth.

How does your new position differ from the one you just left? As a Library Assistant III my main concentration was running the Work Study program. My duties included hiring and training new student workers and supervising their day to day duties. In my new role as a Library Technician II I will be overseeing the entire circulation department including staff and student workers while also ensuring the effective operation of the circulation desk. Providing efficient and resourceful services to students will always be at the center of what I do.

What do you like best about working with students, staff, and faculty here at CSN? What I like about working with students, staff and faculty here at CSN is that there’s a really strong sense of community specifically here at the North Las Vegas campus. Whether you’re walking the hallways or participating in an event, there’s always a genuine atmosphere of wanting students to succeed.

Do you get involved in activities at CSN outside of the library? Yes, I am a member of the CSN Women’s Alliance where our primary focus is to educate and empower through outreach initiatives related to gender and women’s issues while also celebrating the contributions of those who create positive change in our communities. I also handle a lot of CSN Libraries’ marketing on social media platforms and recently hosted a graduation cap decorating event in partnership with CSN Alumni Relations.
