CSN to Recognize Diverse Graduating Class

College will hold a series of multicultural celebrations leading up to the 44th annual commencement 

LAS VEGAS, May 4, 2016 – The College of Southern Nevada will hold multicultural graduation celebrations in the coming weeks to recognize the hard work of its diverse community of students.

The celebrations begin Saturday, May 7, and run through May 14, leading up to the college’s 44th annual Commencement Ceremony on May 16. Food and entertainment will be provided at each celebration and all are open to the public.

“We are proud of every graduate of CSN, and we want to celebrate them and their diverse backgrounds. Congratulations to them all,” said CSN President Michael Richards. “We know that recognizing accomplishments can enhance student success, and we want every CSN student to succeed.”

The multicultural celebrations will all take place on CSN’s Cheyenne campus:

  • Native American Celebration: 6 p.m., Saturday, May 7, in the June Whitley Lounge. The celebration will include a reception and family style gathering.
  • Latino Celebration: 6 p.m., Thursday, May 12, in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre. Nevada state Assemblyman Nelson Araujo will deliver the keynote address.
  • African American Celebration: 6 p.m., Friday, May 13, in the June Whitley Lounge. CSN student Ivan Kasagama will deliver the keynote address.
  • Asian/Pacific Islander Celebration: 4 p.m., Saturday, May 14, in the Morse Arberry Jr. Telecommunications Building. Rosita Lee, former commissioner White House Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, will deliver the keynote address.
