Deadline Approaching for Innovative Nevada Promise Scholarship

The new program pays all tuition and mandatory fees once other forms of aid are applied

LAS VEGAS, Oct 23, 2017 – This year’s high school seniors are strongly encouraged to apply for the new Nevada Promise Scholarship as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is next week, Oct. 31.

The scholarship, passed by the Nevada Legislature this year, mirrors similar programs around the nation. It will pay all mandatory tuition and fees for up to three years at any Nevada community college minus any federal or state financial aid. This year’s high school seniors are the first class eligible for the new program. If they do not apply by the deadline, they lose eligibility to receive the scholarship going forward.

In addition to the financial benefits, students in the program are also assigned a mentor who can help guide them through college. There will be a mentor sign up and training session at 10 a.m. on Nov. 4 at the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre on the North Las Vegas Campus for those interested in becoming a mentor.

To be eligible, a student must:

  • apply by Oct. 31, 2017
  • enroll in and maintain a minimum of 12 college credit hours per semester at a Nevada community college starting the fall semester after completion of high school
  • obtain a high school diploma or equivalent between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018
  • be less than 20 years of age and classified as a Nevada resident for tuition purposes
  • not have earned a prior associate or bachelor’s degree
  • complete a federal financial aid application
  • not be in default on any federal student loan or owe a refund to any federal student aid program
  • complete at least 20 hours of community service each year
  • Work with a mentor during the program
  • and complete two separate college trainings prior to enrollment

Students should visit www.csn.edu/promise for all the details and to apply for the scholarship.
