Exciting news here, book nerds: CSN has the top librarian in the state.
CSN librarian Ted Chodock
So says the Nevada Library Association, which last week named CSN’s own Ted Chodock the 2014 Librarian of the Year.
Chodock, a reference and instructional services librarian on the Charleston campus, came here a few years ago after a career doing all kinds of cool things in other places.
He worked in the library at Harvard Divinity School, got himself a couple of master’s degrees, taught English in Japan because why not, and worked in the library of a small Vermont college for students with learning disabilities.
“That helped me make instruction my focus,” he said of his time at the Vermont college, which focused on students with dyslexia, ADHD and similar challenges. “Reaching students is the top priority.”
At CSN, Chodock has recently been focusing his energy on analyzing what the library does well, what it needs to work on, and how all of it affects students.
His nomination for Librarian of the Year noted his excellent work in that area.
“It’s about measuring whether what we’re doing has an impact on students,” he said. “We want student success to always be our goal.”
