It’s finally happening! CSN’s student unions are getting closer and closer to reality
An architect and a contractor have been hired, the design phase is well underway, and it looks like groundbreakings will happen on all three campuses this summer, with the grand openings set for the fall 2019 semester.
But you don’t have to take our word for it. Sherri Payne, senior associate vice president for facilities management, and her team have scheduled events on all three campuses this month to showcase what’s to come. They’ll have presentation drawings, models of the facilities and even a virtual reality system that allows you to “see” inside the buildings as if they were already real.
“You look around and it’s like you’re in the room,” Payne said. “You’ll see what the buildings will actually look like.”
Make sure to come by one of the meetings:
- Henderson Campus: 9 a.m. to noon, February 7, C Building lobby
- Charleston Campus: 9 a.m. to noon, February 14, B Building lobby
- North Las Vegas Campus: 9 a.m. to noon, February 21, June Whitley Student Lounge
The buildings, each about 25,000 square feet, will be virtually identical, one on each campus.
In Henderson, it will be behind the C building along Heather Drive, between the temporary parking lot and the baseball field. That parking lot will be made larger and become permanent, too.
In North Las Vegas, the union will be just outside the A building, while at Charleston it will be between the C and I buildings. Because of the loss of critical parking spaces on the Charleston Campus, the modulars near the police department will be moved and that area will be paved.
Each union will have a food court, large and small meeting rooms, study space, courtyards, student government offices, advising offices, a multicultural center and sitting areas.
