The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a unique scholarship established by the Nevada Legislature for Nevada high school graduates to attend community college. As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid.
Mentors are an important part of the Nevada Promise Scholarship and a strong support structure is key to help students find success. Meet the mentors who help provide support and guidance to students receiving the Nevada Promise scholarship at CSN.
Erin Windsor earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Tech University. She was a Howard Hughes Institute Undergraduate Research Scholar and the mentorship in that program opened the door for her to discover her future career. She later joined the MD Anderson Cancer Center UT Health Graduate School of Biomedical Science.
“I was lucky enough to have two mentors to see me through challenges in my life, like the death of my mother,” she said. “They both gave me advice on with how to cope with that and continue to be successful in my doctoral program.”
She hopes to help Nevada Promise scholarship recipients balance school and home lives. She explained, “those all too often blur, and I aim to help students navigate through anything that life might throw at them to ensure their success in college.”
CSN is seeking mentors of all backgrounds who are willing to give 3-5 hours each semester to guide the future of Nevada. Learn more at csn.edu/promise/become-a-mentor.
