The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a unique scholarship established by the Nevada Legislature for Nevada high school graduates to attend community college. As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid.
Mentors are an important part of the Nevada Promise Scholarship and a strong support structure is key to help students find success. Meet the mentors who help provide support and guidance to students receiving the Nevada Promise scholarship at CSN
Nevada Promise mentor John Nasshan is a musician, radio host and sports fan dedicated to the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Vegas Golden Knights. He has lived in Southern Nevada since moving from Chicago in 1976. He is an on-air radio host at KUNV 91.5 FM Monday thru Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Nasshan is a freelance drummer and percussionist and the principal percussionist / timpanist for the Henderson Symphony who looks forward to getting his jazz quintet back together as soon as it is safe. “I’ve seen it all in the Music and Entertainment Capital of the World,” said Nasshan.
His time as a Nevada Promise Mentor has been rewarding for many reasons but said, “the top reasons (I enjoy it) are that it allows me to pass my time management and work skills forward to a great group of young people.” He enjoys helping students set goals and manage milestones. “I find our Southern Nevada young people to be a very promising generation for our future and I am glad to be part of this valuable program!”
