CSN to Institute ‘Reverse Degree’ Process for Thousands of Students
New policy allows students to earn a degree using credits from CSN, NSC and UNLV
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 29, 2016 – The College of Southern Nevada is contacting thousands of former students who may have earned a college degree but don’t know it.
A new “reverse transfer” process within the Nevada System of Higher Education allows for an associate degree to be awarded to some students who transferred from a community college to a university.
“Students benefit by receiving the recognition they earned,” said Juanita Chrysanthou, CSN vice president for Student Affairs. “Employers recognize associate degrees when hiring and recruiting, so it’s an important asset to have while pursuing your bachelor’s degree.”
Eligible students who have earned 15 or more credits at a NSHE community college and transferred to a four-year NSHE institution where they earned 60 or more credits may be able to obtain an associate degree for the coursework they completed between the two institutions. The deadline for students to apply is March 7.
CSN is reaching out to approximately 2,600 former students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Nevada State College, who may qualify for the degree.
There is no cost to the students.
