This is important for all CSN students who like money: If you want to take a short-term course that has not already started, and you want financial aid to pay for it, make sure you register by Feb. 3.
CSN offers about 200 short-term classes, ranging from four weeks to 10 weeks long. Some have already started, and some won’t start for another few weeks. But, if you want financial aid to pay for it, you have to be registered by Feb. 3, no matter when the course starts. A full listing of the courses can be found here.
Why is this so? The federal government has some rules. One of those rules is that we at CSN have to prove that the financial aid we disburse to students is actually being used for, you know, schooling. It wouldn’t be proper to have students using their Pell Grant cash for a new iPhone, no matter how cool that might seem.
So, CSN does a census of students a couple weeks after classes start. We make sure those students who say they’re using their financial aid for school are actually doing that. This census takes place Feb. 4. Hence the Feb. 3 deadline. If you’re not registered for a short-term class by then, by all means you can still take one, but we can’t give you any financial aid to pay for it.
You will have to be registered by 11:59 p.m. the day before the session starts, though. That’s part of CSN’s new no late registration policy, which we’ve written about before. Basically, with a few exceptions, you have to register for a class before the session actually starts or you won’t get in. You can read about that policy and the exceptions here.
Have fun out there, and don’t forget to take a peek at your calendar. That is, if you like money.
