Join local officials and members of the softball team to celebrate their first on-campus home field.
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 7, 2016 – The College of Southern Nevada invites the public to celebrate the dedication of our new Lady Coyotes softball field, the first home field in team history.
The celebration will take place at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13 on the college’s Henderson Campus. CSN President Michael Richards, Athletic Director Dexter Irvin and Henderson City Councilwoman Gerri Schroder are scheduled to speak.
Previously, CSN’s softball team played at the Russell Road Recreation Complex. Now the team has a home of its own.
“This new field is beautiful, and I firmly believe it will help propel our women’s softball team to the national championships this spring,” Richards said.
The Lady Coyotes’ inaugural softball season was in spring 2004. They play in the Scenic West Athletic Conference and will be led this year by new head coach Jim Overturf, who becomes the team’s first full-time coach.
“This new field is a tremendous attribute to the softball program,” Irvin said. “It will provide us a great recruiting tool for the program.”
The new field features a press box, hitting cages, bull pens, storage, a video scoreboard, field level seating, a grandstand for approximately 500 spectators and beautiful artificial turf.
“This will really have a positive effect on the team,” said Jinger Meuir, the Lady Coyotes’ shortstop. “It’ll give us an advantage over other teams because we’ll literally be on our own turf.”
The facility was designed by KGA Architects and the general contractor was J.A. Tiberti Construction.
