Classified Employee of the Month- Steve Nellis

Steve Nellis is an Administrative Assistant at the CSN Western Technology Center. Steve is known to be extremely knowledgeable in his position and provides excellent service to students and CSN team members. He is a resource to current and prospective students, community members and the CSN family. He has established himself as a go-to colleague for faculty in need of technology assistance in the classroom. This was particularly helpful at the onset of the COVID-19 panedmic.

“Because of the small size of the department, Steve has to pivot to change directions several times per day,” wrote Tamar Flores- Sahagun in the nomination. “He always manages to interact with others sharing a positive attitude in the most challenging situations.”

Nellis adapted quickly to the evolving needs of students during the pandemic. And, as CSN began to prepare for a return to campus he demonstrated remarkable diligence to the health and safety of students and employees by implementing safety and sanitization protocols in advance.

“He consistently strives for self-improvement and growth,” wrote Flores-Sahagun. “With the CSN values forefront in his mind, he attends professional development and embraces opportunities for leadership.”

Nellis adopted a collaborative working style and he rejects the notion of “ it’s not my job.” Instead, he is known to assist colleagues and students to the best of his ability whether or not the task falls within his official job description. Congratulations Steve!
