LAS VEGAS, July 30, 2013 – College of Southern Nevada (CSN) received national ranking for the value of its Fire Science Technology program by Fire Science Online, a not-for-profit information source for careers in firefighting, and related fields. CSN ranked eight out of 67 listed colleges and universities that offer fire science degree programs.

Fire Science Online compiles the list based on criteria including annual tuition less than $10,000, fully-accredited institutions that offer four-year degrees and U.S. colleges with a minimum of 5,000 active students enrolled. There are approximately 900 colleges in the United States that offer fire science degrees.

The list is a tool for future firefighters to research first-rate and reasonably priced degree programs. CSN’s Fire Science Technology program has an annual tuition of $2,078, and features 23 courses. Current enrollment for 2013-14 is 417 students.

“Affordability is a relevant part of the equation for prospective fire science students, but job placement is key,” said Greg Gammon, CSN’s Director of Fire Science and Emergency Management. “Our program elevates their status from students to firefighters through engagement and strategic training.”
