CSN Named Safest College in Nevada

The report used federal crime and education statistics to make a determination

CSN Police Chief Darryl Caraballo

LAS VEGAS, April 6, 2017 – The College of Southern Nevada was named the safest college in the state by a home security provider, which used data and statistics from the FBI and U.S. Department of Education.

“The College of Southern Nevada does an amazing job of protecting its students from violence and property crime,” the security company ATD noted in its announcement.

CSN, which operates its own police department, is the largest higher education institution in Nevada, with more than 34,000 students taking classes on three full-service campuses and eight learning centers in the Las Vegas valley.

Police Chief Darryl Caraballo credited the department’s streel-level community policing philosophy.

“I think a lot of it has to do with our proactive approach with our community policing efforts,” Caraballo said. “Getting out there, being visible, interacting with people on a daily basis. Those efforts lead to cooperation between us and our community. We’re always visible and active in the area.”
