CSN to Expand Athletics, Add Soccer in fall 2016

Coaches have been hired for both men’s and women’s soccer teams

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2016 – The College of Southern Nevada will launch both men’s and women’s soccer teams, which are expected to begin competing in the fall 2016 semester.

“We’ve named two fantastic coaches, and we expect to be competitive from the start,” said CSN Athletics Director Dexter Irvin. The teams will play in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

CSN, which already boasts competitive men’s baseball, women’s softball, and women’s volleyball teams, has never had a men’s soccer team, and had a women’s soccer team from 2000 through 2004.

Irvin named Geoffrey Hawkins as the head coach of the men’s team. Hawkins, who will join CSN as a part-time employee, is currently serving as the president of the Las Vegas Mobsters of the USL Premier Development League, and is a founding partner in the Hawkins Melendrez law firm.

Irvin also named Jennifer Schultz as the head coach of the women’s team. She is a Green Valley High School graduate who played soccer at Dixie College before playing in the English Women’s Premier League. She will also join CSN as a part-time employee.
