It’s crazy out there, am I right?
And not the good kind of crazy, either. We’re talking about dangerous crazy. The roads in this town seem like they’re always populated by people who have never driven before. Who think rain means “go faster” and who act like crosswalks are finish lines
Pedestrians? It’s dangerous. Dozens of pedestrians were killed on the local roads last year.
This is where we come in. CSN’s Division of Workforce and Economic Development offers all kinds of community and personal enrichment classes, from typing workshops to bellydancing tutorials. As of Friday, Feb. 7, they’re going to add another one: A safe-driving course.
“CSN is aware of the problem and we’re trying to do our part to help fix it,” said LeQuanda Cole, the senior specialist in charge of the program.
The course will be taught by a retired police officer. It is licensed through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles to reduce demerit points placed on a driver’s license. Such courses typically lower a driver’s vehicle insurance rates, too.
The class is also scheduled to be offered in Spanish. With the issuance of Driver Authorization Cards by the DMV to undocumented immigrants underway, there will be more Spanish-speaking drivers on the road in the coming months.
The first course, set for 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, will be free. Future courses will cost $25. They are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 21. All classes will take place at CSN’s Sahara West center, 2409 Las Verdes Street, near Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.
