Confused about the excess credit fee? Or just curious?
Good news, then, because we’re holding a workshop at 10 a.m. Tuesday to answer all your questions. It’ll be on the Charleston campus, Building K, room 101.
A couple points to consider:
– The excess credit fee charges 50 percent more per credit to students who have accumulated credits equal to 150 percent of the credits required for their program. In other words, if you’re associate’s degree program requires 60 credits and you have earned 90 or more already, you’d have to pay $126.75 per credit instead of the normal $84.50.
– The excess credit fee is mandated by the Nevada System of Higher Education and is in effect at all public higher education institutions; it is not a fee specific to CSN..
– The excess credit fee went into effect in the fall 2014 semester.
– Many other states have adopted similar programs, including Arizona, Utah, North Carolina and Virginia.
– There is an appeals process in place, which you can find out more about it at this link.
– The point is to encourage students to finish more quickly.
So if you have questions or concerns, please attend the workshop. You’ll also be able to find out information about counseling and advising services at CSN, which can really help you graduate on time.
