Following a national search, Caprice Roberson has been selected to serve as CSN’s Director of Libraries.
Where did you grow up? Lansing, Michigan. I moved to Nevada the summer before my junior year in high school.
Where did you go to school? What did you study? I went to UNLV for undergrad and studied political science. I loved studying it (and still do), but ultimately decided I didn’t want to go into the field. I attended UCLA for my master’s degree in library and information science and started working at CSN shortly after. I went back to school and got a master’s in public administration from UNLV in 2017.
What other jobs have you had? I’ve pretty much worked in libraries from the time I was 16. I started as a shelver at the public library and I worked in circulation, youth services, and adult services before I went to UCLA for my master’s. During that time, I worked at the Biomedical Library at UCLA and for the graduate library, helping provide digital reference. When I graduated, I worked at CSN as an adjunct librarian for a semester before I was hired on full time as a reference and instruction librarian. Outside of libraries, I worked retail for one Christmas season and worked for the City of Henderson as a recreation assistant for a couple of years, but my heart has always been in libraries.
Are there any special projects you’re looking forward to working on at CSN? I think CSN Libraries are great and I’m looking forward to what the future will bring. We will have the opportunity to incorporate new ideas, technologies, furniture, spaces, and services to better serve all of our users in the coming years.
