Jessica Caseman, head of InterLibrary Loan
Jessica Caseman recently became the new head of InterLibrary Loan for CSN Libraries. Jessica started her career at CSN in the library as a student worker in the circulation department while pursuing her AA in English. She recently graduated from University of Nebraska with a bachelor’s degree in library science in December 2018. She is planning to pursue a master’s degree in library science soon.
Jessica started her love of libraries early and in high school volunteered at the public library’s young people’s department for the summer reading program. Her positive experience there led her to look for more library opportunities. While attending CSN, she became a student worker in the circulation department at the Charleston Campus Library. Later she was promoted to clerical trainee in the technical services department checking in materials. Six months later, Jessica moved to a full-time position working in both the InterLibrary Loan and Technical Services departments. After eight years in this dual role, she served as interim head of InterLibrary Loan for the past year and has now been promoted to head of InterLibrary Loan.
Jessica, can you describe what your duties are in your position in InterLibrary Loan? I borrow and lend materials (articles, books, book chapters, DVDs) with other libraries (academic, public, medical, military) across the country. Most articles arrive within 1 business day and most books arrive within 2 weeks. Turnaround time may be affected by different factors, such as scarcity of sources, distance of sources, holidays and weekends, or incomplete information about the requested item.
