CSN libraries are kicking of Women’s History Month with a special event focused specifically on Nevada women and making sure their stories get told.
If you’ve never heard of a Edit-a-Thon (or “Hack-a-Thon” as they’re sometimes called), such an event is designed to help add content to Wikipedia and update current pages. This Edit-a-Thon is specifically designed to make sure entries on famous Nevada women exist and are accurate. These women deserve to be recognized, and our students and faculty can help make that happen!
The event, partnering with the CSN Women’s Alliance Diversity committee, will take place at the North Las Vegas Campus Library and Henderson Campus Library on Friday, March 3 from 11am-3pm (you can drop in any time!). The West Charleston Campus Library event will be on Friday, March 10 from 11am-3pm as well.
Once students sign in and grab a name tag, they can check out our list of possible topics to work on, look at suggestions for finding facts to add to the page they choose, and review training resources to make sure everything is being done correctly.
Want to learn even more of what the event is all about? Our CSN Library Director Beth Schuck and CSN History Professor Sondra Cosgrove spoke with KNPR, Nevada Public Radio on Wednesday, March 8 to tell how the process works and the larger benefits of events like this. Listen to their interview here!
To register for the Edit-a-Thon, visit our Woman’s Alliance Wikipedia Edit-a-thon page and feel free to ask a librarian if you have any questions!
